[post_content] => TIRANA, Feb.7 - Hundreds of Albanians from the echelons of theater, culture, artistic and political fields gave their last farewell to the flower covered coffin of Kadri Roshi. Under a grey sky that seemed to mourn this loss, they gave an honorary salute to the departure of what was known as one of the greatest Gods of acting in the country. Kadri Roshi was born in 1924 and started acting when he was 21. He received artistic education in Zagreb and Prague. He dedicated almost 50 years to his professional acting career. His name is associated with the majority of successful theatrical and cinematographic productions in the country. Almost 100 theater roles and 30 figures in films make up the CV of Kadri Roshi. He was honored by several prizes, such as "Artist of the People" and "Honor of the Nation". His achievements were widely recognized and cherished throughout the Albanian art arena. He has played along with all the big names of Albanian art such as Drita Pelingu, Violeta Manushi, Tinka Kurti, Reshat Arbana, Margarita Xhepa, Marika Kallamata, Luiza Xhuvani, etc. The latest movie in which he starred was the internationally appraised Colonel Bunker, under the direction of Kujtim Cashku. The farewell ceremony was characterized by strong emotional displays as the Albanian art scene will now miss one of its leading figures. Roshi was an educational and inspirational icon to all young actors that collaborated with him. To his audience he will be always associated with typical roles such as one of the latest, that of the wise and humble Aesop telling his moral tales. He also realized a televised documentary reciting the fables while smoking his traditional cigarette on the sea banks of Karavasta, the Laguna of his dreams, where his soul will rest. Roshi's soft profile with the aura of white hair adorning his face with noble light, his powerful voice, his impeccable acting, his never-ending passion and dedication to performances is his best heritage, the testimonial he has left for future generations.

[post_content] => Although the "World Press Photo" exhibition will still be open for another five days, it has already registered a record 2.500 visitors, unheard of in years. According to sources at the National Arts Gallery, the difference in attendance between this and other exhibitions is mind-boggling, beyond any comparison.
"World Press Photo" is an activity that opened on 16 December at the National Arts Gallery. It was organized in cooperation with the Dutch Embassy in Tirana, which created this opportunity for the first time in Albania. The Curator and manager of this exhibition, Jeroen Visser did an admirable job in opening the exhibition, which is in Albania after touring 55 different states," writes a local newspaper.
The exhibition was also greeted by Alfred Moisiu, the President of Albania and representatives of the Diplomatic Corps accredited to Tirana, the Ambassador of the Netherlands, Sweder van Voorst to Voorst. There are about 4,448 photographs taken in 122 countries of the world.

[post_content] => After about one month since its official opening, 13 December 2006, the Onufri Competition headed towards its closure. This annual exhibition of contemporary art saw the works by thirty artists, Albanian and foreign ones. Armand Lulaj, an Albanian artist, was declared the winner of the competition. The three prizes were with videos. Lulaj's was a parallel video titled "Time without places" though there was no description on why it won the first prize. The second prize was given to Greek artist Anna Tsouloufi Lagiou for her video projection "Metamorphosis Cannabis", and the third prize to Kosova's artist Bekim Bllogu "Sugar spilling out." None of them was present at the ceremony. Most of this wealth of art came in the form of paintings, but there were also photographs, installations, videos, etc. An international panel of judges was brought together to valuate these works. That panel was headed by the "honorable member" of this body of international judges, Bonnies Clearwater, a well known expert on modern art. As the Deputy Director of the Arts Gallery Rubens Shima underlines she was "one of the most important individuals of these past 17 years in the field, Director of the Museum of Modern Art in Miami the USA, and this is her first visit to Albania." Another member of the panel of judges was Ricardo Caldura, Professor of Phenomenology of Modern Art at the Academy of Arts in Venice and also Director of the Gallery of Contemporary Art at Mestra, Venice, Italy, and a well known public gallery that focuses on the developments of contemporary art. Another member of this panel of judges was Genc Mulliqi, Director of the Gallery of Arts.

[post_content] => A novel that belongs to the grayness of offices, written with a great deal of spite and sarcasm. An ironical blasphemy towards the blackening of the image of the Albanians of Albania, where the boundaries of imagination and reality are confronted. This is the latest novel by author Ylljet Alickaj, "A story with the Internationals," which just recently went on sale and has scored a record of sales so far.
The favorite subject of the author is the trauma of the Albanians from racism and discrimination. Confronted with an "elite" arrogance (often mixed with ignorance), many Albanians with or without positions, within or outside of the country, adapt to their circumstances by self subjugation. Using the blackest of humors, the author creates a closed circuit, where, in growing proportions, he presents doses of discrimination and nihilism towards the Albanians, the more they accept subjugation.
As you read this book, the questions naturally arise whether or not the current interest of the West in Albania emanates from emergencies or fortune, or interests of partnerships, cooperation or common alibis. The author simply explains the clich고and impressions and the image-blackening schemes which circulate and are generated at intimate tables of a certain stratum of Internationals (inside and outside of the country) which are quite often institutionalized later on at forums or decision making instances. The novel talks with irony about the foreign experts or journalists who pass through Albania and who have "amazing qualities" to understand, analyze and profoundly grasp this people, producing ready made conclusions for consumption by a public elsewhere, always ready to swallow this blackened reality with glee.
