kung fuTIRANA, July 6 - Chinese martial arts and their famous Shaolin Kung Fu, one of China's national prides, were performed in two concerts in Albania this week, drawing wide attention in a country where their popularity is rapidly increasing due to several training courses offered.

Martial art performers from China's Henan Province performed in Tirana and the small Albanian town of Cerrik this week in two shows which also brought on stage traditional Chinese songs and dances.

The Kung Fu performances and traditional songs and dances fully unveiled the Chinese culture. Dances such as "Xiu Se" and "Guo Yun" embodying classical Eastern beauty and the simultaneous performances of Albanian and Chinese traditional songs got encores by the public, with some of the spectators invited on stage to practise the martial arts.

Chinese Ambassador to Albania Jiang Yu who was awarded the "Honorary Citizen" title by the Cerrik Municipality in central Albania, said "the honorary title is not only a personal honour to her, but also recognition and promotion to constantly growing exchanges between Albania's and China's local government units in recent years."

"Albania and China will continue strengthening human exchanges and encourage links between the two peoples by promoting exchanges between local government units of both countries," the Ambassador said.

The two concerts were held as part of cultural exchanges between Albania and China which is also turning into a key trading partner and a top foreign investor with the recent acquisitions of the country's biggest oil producer and the sole international airport.

Also gaining popularity in Albania where several training courses are offered, Shaolin Kung Fu is considered one of the greatest forms of martial arts and boasts a variety of techniques and philosophies that increase the spiritual growth in both young children and adults.

Shaolin Kung Fu dates back to 1,500 years ago in the Shaolin Temples of the Henan Province and is one of China’s prides.

The "Chinese Kungfu in the Land of Eagles" staged by Chinese artists and Kungfu masters provided the audience a colorful glimpse of Chinese culture, wrote China's Xinhua news agency.

“Zhengzhou Song and Dance Theater put on such pieces titled ‘Beautiful Scenery,’ ‘Jasmine,’ ‘Swan’ and ‘The Rhythm of China’ to provide an unforgettable cultural spectacle. One special moment occurred when a singer from the troupe sang an old Albanian song from the city of Shkodra, much to the audience's delight,” Xinhua reported.
