Visa-Free Travel Faces Further Delay
TIRANA, April 22 - Albanians will very likely not be able to travel visa-free to much of the European Union in the next few months, as they had originally been promised, according to a leaked report prepared by EU experts on whether Albania and Bosnia-Herzegovina met the necessary requirements for visa liberalization.

The two countries had hoped for visa-free travel this summer, but it is now a certainly that will not happen, according to EU officials. Conditions and delays are likely to push the process further, and no exact date is set for final approval, as EU tries to keep pressure on the two governments.

The news comes from a copy of the updated assessment of the implementation by Albania and Bosnia of the roadmap for visa liberalization, which had been obtained by the regional news agency, Balkan Insight. The report “indicates that both countries have progressed in meeting benchmarks, but that more efforts are needed.”

According the Balkan Insight, the report, sent to EU member states last Friday, says Albania has met most of the requirements to get visa-free access to the Schengen Area, but it needs to do more.

Think tank says political crisis leading to stagnation in Albania
TIRANA, April 22 - FRIDE, a think tank based in Madrid, issued a report on Albania Thursday, saying the country’s political crisis is no big threat for a backslide but it still has lead to stagnation in the country. Albania’s latest general elections were presented as a watershed moment for Albania’s European bid, but the politicization of the vote count led the opposition to contest the results and to boycott the Parliament for six months, said the research.

TIA’s business suffers due to volcanic ash
Tirana, April 21- Although not directly affected by the volcanic ash that covered much of northern and central Europe, Tirana International Airport suffered as a result of flight cancellations with affected airports from London to Vienna.
