A Balkan Mini-Schengen
TIRANA, June 28 – Presidents of Kosovo, Macedonia, Albania and Montenegro met last Saturday near Prizren, Kosovo to discuss regional cooperation and the free movement of people.

Kosovo President Fatmir Sejdiu, who hosted the other three heads of state, stressed the importance of regional cooperation, the rule of law and the fight against organized crime.

Albanian President Bamir Topi said he hoped the citizens of Albania and Kosovo will soon enjoy visa-free travel to EU countries, while Montenegrin President Filip Vujanovic pointed out that the free movement of people is essential to European integration. Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov reaffirmed his country’s willingness to find a solution to the name dispute with Greece. The four heads of state agreed to strengthen relations and to boost regional and economic co-operation.

The regional summit was being held in a hotel near Prizren.

Bilateral meetings between the four presidents were held on Saturday morning, and then a joint meeting between all of them was held in the afternoon.

Freedom House: Albania Needs To Do More In Elections, Media, Judiciary And Corruption
TIRANA, June 30 - Freedom House’s Annual Survey Nations in Transit has included Albania this year. The 2010 report - covering events of 2009 - tracks democratic developments and setbacks of 29 countries in the former Communist states of Europe and Eurasia. The report says that two decades after the collapse of the Communist regime in late 1990, Albania has achieved some positive results in terms of Euro-Atlantic integration. Albania is a member of NATO as of April 4, 2009.

Albania, Kosovo To Intensify Ties
TIRANA, June 28 - Prime Minister Sali Berisha had a working dinner with Kosoco Prime Minister Hashim Thaçi on Sunday. Cabinet ministers of integration, interior, economy and finance from both sides were also present. Govt Raises Pensions Up To 10% Despite Financial Problems
TIRANA, June 30 - Government decided on Wednesday to raise pensions for around 520,000 pensioners from 4 to 10 percent starting from July 1 despite difficulties handling the country’s high budget deficit and public debt. The warned decision will raise monthly pensions for pensioners living in villages by 10 percent and 4 percent for pensioner living in cities and towns. Speaking at the cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Sali Berisha said the decision on wage increases would be taken next week.
