TIRANA, Aug 17 – Four young activists have been arrested after publishing a disturbing mock obituary of Prime Minister Sali Berisha.
They were college and high school students and also activists of a civil society forum known as “Active Youth” who is trying to protest about the lack of justice in the country.
Arlind Kote, 22, Klevis Bejleri, 22, Dritan Broka, 20, and Geraldo Durdaj, 17, were arrested while sticking posters announcing the fake passing away of the premier on a main street in downtown Tirana.
Durdaj’s brother Erison was one of the 26 dead persons of the March 15, 2008 explosion at the Gerdec ammunition disposal factory close to the Albanian capital Tirana. Geraldo also lost other relatives in that accident.
The poster also accused Berisha for the Gerdec explosion and also for the four dead in January this year at an opposition protest.
They were accused of offense and libel.
Their parents said that the children were not politically motivated but just trying to protest against the lack of justice in the country.
