TIRANA, March.27 – In the first meeting between the National Agency of Air Traffic of Albania (ANTA) and the air traffic controllers of the International Airport of Prishtina (AP), experts discussed the possibility of more air corridors between two countries. The two centers have already agreed on cooperation projects for radar air control, radio navigation and meteorological data exchange.
AP controllers’ supervisor, Lorik Abdullahu, explained that Albania could especially benefit from the advanced technology as far as meteorological data is concerned as well as expertise from schooling in specialized centers which have made available more grants fro Kosova. On the other side the Albanian side could offer its experience in flight supervision which is still not permissible to AP. That right remains exclusive to present NATO troops.
Agreements extended to the common use of radars to supervise the eastern part of Albania and the western Kosova. Both centers intend to extend their collaboration to civil aviation institutions such as ICAO and EASA.
Maksim Ethemaj from ANTA said that this is the first professional contact between the air traffic control centers.
A metal fence separates the terminal of passengers form the air traffic control zone at the Rinas Airport. Given the concession on the new terminal the two parts function separately because air control is under the jurisdiction of the government agency that regulates it. 12 million euro is the revenue generated by the taxes that airlines pay to the state, 90 percent of which for using air space as transit and the rest for landings.
Head of ANTA, Arben Xhiku, says that Anta is a corporation of the Albanian government.
