TIRANA, April 24 – President Alfred Moisiu met Tuesday with Ann-Margret Westin, the representative of the International Monetary Fund in the country. A statement from the president’s press office said they discussed on the country’s general macro-economic situation and the fiscal system and also Moisiu consulted with Westin on certain issues. It is believed that these ‘certain issues’ could likely be the recent draft law on business fines which have sparked a great row with the businessmen, supported by the opposition, and the government. Businessmen are against paying fines without first waiting for a court verdict on the fairness of the fine. The government says that all hones businesses need not be afraid by the law. While businesses say that would increase corruption among the taxation authorities.
