TIRANA, May.7 – The IMF has approved the government decision to rely on imports for half of its energy needs for the upcoming year, according to Gene Ruli, Minister of Economy, Trade and Energy. Ruli explained that the discussion with the IMF has focused on ways to rationalize the impact of imports on the state budget in order to be supportive of the Electricity Corporation, KESH. Focusing on concrete steps, Ruli said that the exact amount of energy o be purchased will depend on weather conditions and it is estimated to vary in value between 18 to 20 billion leks. This year’s energy crisis was one of the hardest to hit Albania, with power rationing reaching the level of 12-14 hours per day in urban areas and even more in rural communities.
