NATO seeks political stability and economic development in Albania

TIRANA, May 14 – NATO acknowledged Albania’s progress in military reforms but the country needs to have political stability and also sustainable economic growth while it is trying to become a full member of the alliance.
Albania hopes to join the alliance as a full member next year after the Bucharest summit but meanwhile it should strive hard to achieve all the required standards, and politics seems to be very difficult one to reach, according to officials.
NATO officials say that it still has not decided whether one or all the NATO candidate member countries, including Albania, Croatia and Macedonia which have created the Adriatic 3 Charter supported by Washington, will be invited to join next year.
Tirana needs to receive positive marks in reforms, both political or economic ones.
Albania has sent army units to international peacekeeping missions in Bosnia, Afghanistan and Iraq. It is also to send a unit to Lebanon.
