TIRANA, June.12- Beginning today, the price of one loaf of bread in Tirana will increase from 60 leks to 70 leks. The price hike was explained by officials as having been caused by an increase in the price of wheat and increased fuel prices, which fire the baking ovens. Bread is a basic element of Albanian food and virtually the most consumed food in the country. The price change will severely affect poor families, which already buy bread with debt lists and liquidate them on the day they receive welfare payments. The prices are expected to change in Durres as well, following the change in bread pricing in Fier. Other regions have not confirmed whether they will along this price increase. (Tirana Times Staff)
