TIRANA, Nov. 1 – Albania’s Electronic and Postal Communications Authority (AKEP) has announced the holding of an international tender to award a broadband wireless access licence. AKEP has set a 300,000 Euro price tag for the national licence in the 1800-1805 MHz band. The bids opening will take place on December 5, 2011. The individual authorization will be granted for a 15-year period with an optional renewal of the contract.
AKEP specialists say the new licence, although below the capacity of 3G, will be dedicated to internet and data transmission.
The tender comes at a time when AMC has been announced as the winner of the second 3G licence after offering 15.1 million Euros, 2.6 million more than the price tag which the government had set. In November 2010, Vodafone Albania was announced the winner of the first 15-year licence after offering 31.4 million Euros
