TIRANA, April 10 – Albania climbed 19 steps to 68th in the 2012 Global Information technology report published by the World Economic Forum. Introducing the results of the report in a press conference this week, Innovation and IT Minister Genc Pollo dedicated Albania’s improved performance in the Networked Readiness Index to the “Digital Albania” government project.
“We climbed from the world’s 95th in 2010 to 68th in 2011,” said Pollo.
The index based on the scores of four key components such as the Environment, Readiness, Usage and Impact subindexes shows Albania has progressed in all four indicators compared to last year. Albania ranks worst in the Environment subindex where the political and regulatory and the business and innovation environment ranks the country 82th and 89th respectively. The best ranking is registered in the Readiness subindex where the affordability and skills indicators rank the country 57th and 56th respectively. Through the evolved methodological framework of the Networked Readiness Index (NRI), the Global Information Technology Report 2012 measures the extent to which 142 economies take advantage of ICT and other new technologies to increase their growth and well-being. This year, Sweden tops the rankings, followed by Singapore and Finland.
