TIRANA, June 22 – A major report to be published later this week by the Council of Europe is expected to criticise Ireland for failing to recognise transgender people, one of the last remaining countries with such a problem in Europe. Albania is in similar disfavor as it has not even changed the law to give recognition to transgenders.
If Albania hopes to advance sociallyءs it is required to do for EU integration– it must become more progressive and open to all members of the population. Last year, Albania passed legislation for gay rights in response to European critiscism. It seems that similar measures will have to be taken for transgender rights.
