TIRANA, May 14 – Albania’s Transport Ministry announced the completion of the modernization of this nation’s air control system at Mother Teresa Tirana International Airport to help it cope with increased traffic. The project was done from the U.S. aerospace company Lockheed Martin.
The ministry said Monday the $76.5 million project, funded by Albanian authorities, has improved the air traffic management and communication systems, its navigation and surveillance. It also has installed a new system for landing and communication and a second radar system to allow for more airline traffic over Albanian airspace.
Albania’s airport, which is used by 12 airlines with flights to 29 destinations, has been under a 20-year concession to a German-led consortium since 2005.
