TIRANA, Jan 5 – The Albanian parliament has said an international investigation should look into recent violence in Mitrovica.
Foreign Commission parliamentary head Prec Zogaj said his country would likely ask for an international investigation of these incidents.
Zogaj said Kosova’s independence could not be undone and also warned of not partitioning Kosova in its north in Mitrovica.
At least six shops were burned last week in two separate incidents, prompting NATO-led peacekeepers and European Union police to increase their presence. It was the second such deployment in Mitrovica and it highlighted the challenge security forces face in preventing ethnic violence in Kosova.
Kosova declared independence from Serbia in February, but the move has been fiercely resisted by the government of Serbia and the Serb minority in Kosova.
