Albania on the map of ship cruises

TIRANA, June.19 – Albania has become a permanent cruise port among Mediterranean lines. Grand Circle Corporation recently launched the M/S Athena, a small, 50-passenger cruise ship, that will sail the eastern Mediterranean, Adriatic, and Aegean Seas. The small ship will visit Greece, Croatia, Albania and Montenegro on 10 and 11-night cruises. In its announcement, the company explained that, “This beautiful part of the world offers much to entice and please cruise travelers. Greece has long been a favorite of cruise travelers, and Dubrovnik and other Croatian ports are delightful and gaining in popularity. Albania and Montenegro are almost unknown to North American travelers, but many of us love to be among the “first” to discover new destinations.” Athena is the first of three new small ships, each of which will carry 50 passengers and cruise in the same area of the eastern Mediterranean .
Oceania Cruises’ ship, Regatta, recently became the first major North American cruise ship to visit Sarande, Albania . It plans two more calls in Sarande during 2007. Also, guests sailing on Insignia’s September 3 and October 17 departures will have the opportunity to explore the region, including excursions to the ruins of Butrint, its Amphitheatre, Basilica, and the five hundred year old settlement, which has been excavated over the past fifty years. In 2008, Oceania Cruises plans eight calls in Sarande.
