TIRANA, Sept. 28 – Albania’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Edmond Haxhinasto held an official visit to Mexico, where he met with host counterpart Patricia Espinosa, President of the Chamber of Senators, Jose Gonzalez Morfin, and Mexican business representatives.
He discussed bilateral ties, developments in the Balkans, as well as cooperation within the international organizations. Tirana and Mexico also signed a cooperation deal between the two foreign ministries, as well as the Memorandum of Understanding between the Diplomatic Academies.
Haxhinasto said that ties between the two countries should be developed further, both in terms of political and diplomatic cooperation, but also in economic aspects.
Haxhinasto said that the signing of two protocols should be followed by concrete steps, as well as with the signing of new agreements on abolishing visas for citizens of both countries and the abolition of double taxation.
Both sides shared the same opinion on strengthening the relations between the business communities. Haxhinasto said that Albania has significant potential still untapped by the Mexican business community, which needs to consider Albania as an entryway to the Balkan market.
They also discussed the creation of mechanisms for academic and cultural cooperation, the possibility of scholarships from the two countries.
Espinoza considered the signing of two protocols of cooperation as a milestone in the development of the relations between the two countries. Haxhinasto also lobbied for Kosovo saying its independence further strengthened stability and regional integration.
