TIRANA, Nov. 8 – Albania has taken over the chairmanship of the presidency of the Parliamentary Assembly of the South East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) in a meeting of the parliamentarians’ leaderships held last week in capital Tirana.
Albanian Parliament Speaker Ilir Meta said at the meeting that cooperation and tolerance are the basics of the new policy of change and said that the cooperation of the SEECP is an excellent platform to further strengthen the cooperation of the region.
Meta also urged closer cooperation with the European Union member countries as all the western Balkan countries are in the process of integration into the bloc.
Representatives from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Greece, Macedonia, Moldova, Montenegro, Romania, Serbia, Slovenia, Turkey and Kosovo took part at the meeting. The South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) was launched on Bulgaria’s initiative in 1996 laying the foundations for regional co-operation for the purposes of creating an atmosphere of trust, good neighborly relations and stability. The SEECP seeks to define itself as an authentic voice of SEE countries with the basic goals aiming at regional co-operation, including the strengthening of security and the political situation, intensification of economic relations and co-operation in the areas of human resources, democracy, justice, and battle against illegal activities.
