TIRANA, July 26 – The Albanian Olympic team has left to take part in the 2008 Beijing Games.
Albania sent 11 athletes, accompanied by their coaches and other staff, as the largest ever delegation in Albania’s Olympic history.
They will compete in six events: swimming, track and field, weightlifting, wrestling, shooting and judo.
Albania first took part in the Olympic Games in 1972 in Munich. However, it did not send another team until joining the Barcelona Games in Spain in 1992.
Last week, the Chinese embassy in Tirana hosted a dinner party for the Albanian team.
Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha and the country’s Sports Minister, Ylli Pango, will attend the opening ceremony of the games on August 8 in Beijing.
