Albania collected 49.6 billion leks ($557.1 million/ 406.9 million euro) in customs revenue in the seven months through July, 2007, up 16.0% from the same period in 2006, according to official statistics released on Friday.
The collected revenue was ten percent higher than the projected figure, the country’s Customs Office said in a statement.
Higher imports and exports through July contributed to the increase in customs revenue, the statement said. Albania’s seven-month exports, worth 60.4 billion leks, were 28 percent higher year-on-year and imports, totaling 211.7 billion leks, were 25 percent more than last year.
The country collected 7.8 billion leks in customs revenue in July alone, up 19 percent on the year and 10 percent more than the forecast figure.
Albania expects to collect 174 billion leks in taxes and customs duties in 2007.
