TIRANA, Feb. 25 – Albanian authorities said they had blocked some 4,500 tons of oil that was being illegally transported by some companies in an effort to avoid taxes.
Police, customs and taxation offices arranged an operation and checked the bills of three companies in the western city of Fier.
They found the illegally deposited oil at the three companies which offered no documentation to prove the oil existence.
Fighting such tax avoidance is a main issue for the authorities and also one of the main sources of corruption in the country. That also serves as an illegal basis that the companies may offer poor quality fuel to the consumers.
