TIRANA, Dec. 5 – Cold weather has covered the entire country in the recent days, temporarily blocking some road segments and finding authorities unprepared.
In the western part of the country there was heavy and continuous rain which sparked fear, especially in northwest, of flooding.
While in the northern and eastern areas there was snow and ice which immediately blocked or delayed traffic
Local authorities were not prepared to cope with such a weather change and could not get immediate care of the roads.
But the cold and rainy weather had some good effects as well. Water flows in the northern Drini River were heightened and increased the level at the three main hydro-power stations that produce the bulk of electricity in the country. It also helped the government, which as to spend less money to buy power abroad.
But many communes and even quarters in capital Tirana are still suffering regular power cuts.
