TIRANA, July 26 – The grave crime prosecutor’s office reported Sunday they had arrested five persons charging them with international drug trafficking, after close cooperation with Italian counterparts.
The five persons were businessmen in the southwestern port city of Vlora and capital Tirana.
They are considered as suspected of drug trafficking following an arrest made from Italian police two years ago. They are accused of collaborating with Italian counterparts to commit the trafficking crime.
In December 2008 Italian police caught 11.8 kilograms of heroin transported by two Albanians.
Albanian authorities praised themselves on the excellent collaboration with Italian counterparts in fighting drug trafficking, which re mains a main issue of concern for the authorities along their integration efforts into the European Union.
