TIRANA, Feb. 27 – Few months after becoming the third operator to be granted the 3G licence, Turkish-owned Eagle Mobile says it has officially launched the 3G service, initially available only in Tirana, the Fushe-Kruja town and the country’s only international airport in Rinas. The regions of Durres, Kavaje, La硡nd Shkodra will be the next areas Eagle Mobile is preparing to offer the 3G service.
“The 3G service coverage will continue to expand throughout the country within a few months. The entry of the third 3G operator will benefit all users with significantly reduced prices and increased quantity of internet it will provide,” the company says in a statement.
In addition, Eagle Mobile by means of Dual Carrier technology HSDPA +, the first of its kind in Albania, will enable the maximum data transmission speed ever achieved in Albania. With the help of dual carrier technology, the 2 frequency bands will be used at the same time, enabling data downloads that can reach up to 42 Mbps. Although this speed can be achieved in vitro, Eagle Mobile says it achieved the speed of 40 Mbps in practice.

Another innovation that Eagle brings is the removal of technological difficulties, that mean the amount in bits and bytes, where the Internet shall be offered as a service that meets customers’ needs. Users will be free to choose the internet package that suits their consumption and thus will know how much to pay. Video calls, sending/receiving e-mail, downloading songs, online games, video and television channels tracking will be much easier with high speed Eagle 3G.
Albania’s Electronic and Postal Communications Authority (AKEP) rated Eagle Mobile’s bid of Euro 4 million to get the third 3G licence with 100 points and gave Plus Communication zero points for its symbolic 1 Euro 1 bid in a tender held last October. Turkish owned Eagle Mobile offered 4.03 million Euros to get Albania’s third 3G licence in a bid making it the third mobile operator offering the 3G services in Albania.
Operating in Albania since March 2008, Eagle Mobile increased its number of subscribers to 1.3 million in the first half of 2012 and its market share in terms of subscribers to around 25 percent, according to AKEP data.
