Police arrest killer suspected of murdering man

TIRANA, Feb. 10 – Police said they had arrested Bukurosh Skender Muceku, 19, after he allegedly stabbed to death another young man in the Kamze quarter not far from the capital Tirana.
Robert Dishmema, 24, was stabbed to death late Tuesday evening after allegedly he quarreled with Muceku.
Though rushed to the hospital he did not survive the stabbing.
Police said they had arrested Muceku after two hours hiding at a house of a friend.

Gattuso’s car returned to Italy

TIRANA, Feb. 10 – Albanian Prosecutor general’s office reported Wednesday that they had returned to Italy a car stolen from AC Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso.
The Range Rover jeep, stolen in 2006, was seized in the capital Tirana last year by an Albanian man who had bought it from an Italian. He was not charged.
Authorities said Wednesday that besides Gattuso’s they returned six other cars stolen in Italy, Norway and Greece.
Many vehicles stolen in European countries end up in Albania with false documentation.

Kosovo, FYROM Muslim communities help flooded area

TIRANA, Feb. 10 – The Muslim communities from neighboring Kosovo and FYROM offered assistance to the flood-hit area in northwestern Albania.
Kosovo’s and FYROM’s Islamic Communities offered in total about 150,000 euros of assistance to the population in Shkodra and Lezha.
Thousands of agricultural land and houses were flooded in the northern area in January following heavy rain and snow. Authorities were obliged to open the emergency doors of the three hydropower stations in the Drini River to save them from destruction.

Alleged drug traffickers arrested

TIRANA, Feb. 8 – Albanian police reported they had arrested a 41-year old in the capital, Tirana, accusing him of distributing drugs.
Alfred Ali Tufa was arrested at a coffe bar. Later on police found 14.38 kilograms of cannabis sativa at one of his houses in Peze e Vogel.
Fighting drug traffic remains a top priority among the country’s efforts to integrate into the European Union.

4 Apolonia players probed on match fixing

TIRANA, Feb. 9 – Officials of the Albanian KF Apolonia football club said Tuesday they had sent four players to be investigated by prosecutors for match fixing.
The KF Apolonia club of Fieri has accused four players of fixing two matches played last year in the top league.
One of them has already acknowledged he bet in a match which they lost, club head Iljaz Haxhia said.
KF Apolonia is in 8th place with 25 points in the Albanian supreme league, 26 points behind the leader.
UEFA has also named two Albanian clubs – KF Tirana and KS Vllaznia – for manipulating qualifying games in the Champions League and the Europa League last year.

Nigerian suspected of fake documents

TIRANA, Feb. 9 – Police arrested a Nigerian-American citizen and has accused him of false documentation.
The Rinasi police arrested Samuel Akinshola Akintaju, 31, after being found with a suspected US passport.
Akintaju is a Nigerian and a US citizen but police saw that his US passport could not be fully considered as regular. He was also found with a regular Nigerian passport.
Akintaju, a graduate IT engineer, was leaving for Rome, Italy last weekend.

3 arrested for possessing explosives

LAC, Feb. 9 – Police reported Tuesday they had arrested three persons in the northern Lac district after finding them with some explosives in their car.
Police also found weapons and ammunition at their house.
Monel Simon Lamaj, 35, Leandro Simon Lamaj, 20, and Sokol Pjet철Buseta, 40, (the first two are brothers) were arrested after being found with C4 explosive devices and 5 mines.
They are accused of illegal trafficking of explosives and weapons possession.
Albania, a former communist country, joined NATO last year, and has about 90,000 tons of excess ammunition stored in old army depots.
The country’s authorities are still trying to recover more than half the estimated 550,000 weapons, 839 million rounds of ammunition and 16 million explosive devices looted from army depots during an uprising in 1997.

Nurse indicted on corruption

ELBASAN, Feb. 9 – Kujtim Qamili, 39, working as a nurse in the central city of Elbasan has been arrested and accused of corruption.
Qamili allegedly asked for money when offering illegally a medical report for different visits.
Qamili was put under house arrest while he is being investigated.
Police continue the investigation looking for other persons involved in such illegal activities.
