TIRANA, Sept 23 – Albania’s new government want to implement programs that will result in a great leap forward in the country’s digital capabilities, Minister for Public Administration and Innovation Milena Harito said at a forum on on new digital strategies.
The forum had the participation of some key institutions in the sector along with students of information technology, business representatives, and other experts in this field.
The meeting aimed to present and discuss the problems of the sector from the perspective of users of information technology, as well as providing ideas and ways for an efficient solution to them.
Harito mentioned the new government’s targets for the development of this very important sector, with an emphasis on some of the main directions that will enable their achievement.
“The first objective is to increase and promote digital services, e-services for citizens and businesses, accessible from computers and cell phones,” said Harito, adding that “the government priority will be to increase transparency and improving services in administration, according to the initiative taken by U.S. President Barack Obama, Open Government Partnership, of which Albania is a part.”
Harito also mentioned that such steps will help the country increase transparency, thus receiving services and better fighting against corruption.
“The use of information technology reduces corruption. ŠIt is creates conditions to detect corruption and the opportunity to fight it,” said Harito.
She also said the new government has a project for distributing tablets in schools equipped with programs for learning e-learning and not simply as a means to access the internet.
