Tirana, April 19 – April 29th marks the one-year anniversary that friends and colleagues of Keida Myftiu (Lulo), lost their friend and colleague to a deadly disease that began in 2000.
The family lost a wife, daughter, sister and amazing mother; friends and colleagues lost a friend that loved life and knew how to enjoy it even when in grave health.
Keida Lulo was born on April 4th 1964 to a family with great tradition (the Lulo family in Gjirokastra and Dajci in Gjakova). Keida Lulo graduated from Sami Frasheri high school with flying colors and later graduated from the school of Architecture in 1987. She worked with passion everywhere she went; such as, in 1987 in the NTUS offices, in the Urban Planning office from 1991-1995, and later in the Central Archive of Technical Construction (CATC). During 1995-1997 she was the coordinator in Albania for “Archeological Site Protection Implementing Renewable Energy Resources” funded by PECO a program of the European Union.
Keida became known in the architectural circles, beginning with the study of the history of urban development of Tirana during 1912-1942. This study that was supported by the Italian Institute of Culture, and was presented in 2000 to the local, national and international stakeholders. In 2002 with the request of Co-Plan, Keida took on the challenge of mapping out the history of urban architecture of Tirana, from the beginning of the city to its modern-day challenges. Her scientific work occupies the majority of the publishing of “Tirana Sfida e Zhvillimit Urban” (Tirana the Challenge of Urban Development”) in collaboration with Besnik Aliaj and Genc Myftiu. This book was first published in English and became the “brand” of the “European Network for Housing Research (ENHR)” conference, which was held in May 2003 in Tirana. This book was later published in more than 100 countries and in 2004 was also translated in Serbo-Croatian and Albanian.
Keida has conducted numerous studies, one of which is “A Collection of Albanian Architecture” which was published in English in “Albania a Patrimony of European Values” (supported by the EU and PNUD) in collaboration with some of the most well known authors of our cultural heritage.
Her fight against cancer from June 2000 until April 29 2011, when Keida closed her eyes forever, carries a lot of hardship but also scientific research to find new cures, with the help of some of the best scientists in the world from the USA, Switzerland, Spain, Italy and Germany. Like she would often say: “At least I tried everything that has been tried until now and some of which I invented myselfŢ
Keida Lulo will always be remembered by her husband, son, friends and colleagues from within and outside the country, for her rare values as an amazing person, humanitarian, scholar, friend, wife and mother.
In remembrance of the passing of Keida Myftiu (Lulo)
