TIRANA, Oct. 11 – The Albanian army was handed a newly-renovated hangar it will use for the air force in Tirana vicinities.
The renovation of the helicopter military base was made by the Italian government with an investment of one million Euros making it appropriate with all the required standards for a NATO member country.
The three hangars have also all the required infrastructure to take care of the army helicopters.
Italy has also trained a number of pilots and technicians, has donated seven AB-206 and AB-205 helicopters and also built other necessary infrastructure for the Farka air base.
Defense Minister Arben Imami pledged the government’s continuous efforts to modernize the army, saying that the air force is the most expensive part; however local media reported last week that NATO has complained that Albania does not spend the necessary money for its defense strategy.
