TIRANA, May 6 – Gianfranco Fini, the President of the Italian Chamber of Deputies, has appealed for a quick solution to the Albanian political crisis by respecting the Constitution and recommendations by the international community. The comments were made in Tirana during a joint press conference with Prime Minister Sali Berisha.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sali Berisha assured Fini that his government was determined to respect the constitutional rights of every Albanian citizen and political party to peacefully protest.
Berisha invited the opposition, which has been staging a hunger strike over the past few days, to use constitutional solutions to make the transparency of the general elections.
“Albania is a country which respects rule of law and possesses all laws and institutions to make transparent even the most secret document. I hope the opposition will benefit and I invite it to benefit from these opportunities,” added Berisha.
Fini said he would also meet opposition leader Edi Rama during his visit to Albania.
The former top Italian diplomat also offered Italy’s support to the visa liberalization process for Albania.
“Italy is working hard to support the visa liberalisation process for Albania, which as mentioned by Mr. Berisha is a very important process despite the challenges that the Albanian government has faced and managed to overcome.”
Fini also praised Albania’s progress in the fight against crime, smuggling, trafficking of human beings and illegal migration.
