TIRANA, May. 16 – General Director of Roads, Ilirjan Berzani and Board Director of the Alpine Mayreder Bau, Hans Jurgen Miko signed an agreement for the construction of an overpass in the Kamza area with construction beginning this June. The project is one of the largest infrastructure initiatives to improve the traffic situation in Tirana and is financed by the EBRD. The project is expected to be completed within 10 months. The Kamza overpass will cost 7 million euro, and represents the main entrance to Tirana from the western segment that connects it to Durres. The overpass will normalize the traffic which travels to Vora, Durres and the north suburbs. While construction has been taken over by the Austrian Alpine Mayreder Bau, the supervision of the project will be carried out by Italconsult. The main road segment is 1040 m long and will have 6 lanes, with an average width of 3.75 m each and a circular overpass running 700 m and other side lines 2.0 km long.
The decision to make a two-level overpass is to address the overcrowded traffic in the area, with the lower level directing the Kamza traffic and the upper level for traffic on the national road. The investment is in line with the strategy to improve the difficult situation of the traffic in the main transportation arteries and joins the previous work performed in the segments Vor렭 Fush롋ruj롡nd Qaf롋ashar -Rinas.
