TIRANA, Dec. 21 – Indian Parliament Speaker Meira Kumar called for more cooperation between India and Albania in trade and commerce when meeting with an Albanian parliamentary delegation led by his counterpart Jozefina Topalli.
Welcoming the delegation from the motherland of Mother Teresa on her 100th Birth Anniversary, Kumar said the “friendly and cordial” relations between India and Albania may further be strengthened by more frequent exchanges of visits of delegations between the two countries.
“Kumar also called for more cooperation between India and Albania in trade and commerce, bringing both the economies to a higher trajectory,” the statement said.
India and Albania share common beliefs and ideals like democracy, rule of law, human rights, pluralism, which bind both the nations together, Kumar underlined.
Recalling the association of Mother Teresa with India, she said, “Mother Teresa ruled over the hearts of the people by serving the poorest of the poor in India. She taught love and selfless service to fellow Indians, although India had a long tradition of great saints like Buddha who preached great virtues of life.”
Kumar expressed her gratitude to the visiting Albanian delegation for their support to India for becoming a non-permanent member of UN Security Council.
