ELBASAN, Aug 24 – Kurum, the Turkish company, has invested some $11 million for the protection of the environment in the central city of Elbasan where it has a steel plant. Kurum had began this funding in 2003 and is now at its final stage. Before that, environmental authorities had fined and temporarily suspended the operation of the plant due to the pollution it created in the area. The investment has been used to install some filters and high tech devices to prevent pollution from being released into the air during steel production. (Tirana Times Staff)
