TIRANA, Oct. 4 – One-fourth of children in Albania still live in poverty says the latest report from UNICEF.
It shows that for these children only 4, 891 lek/person (49 USD) is spent in a month and they consume 3.7 times less food than normal children.
“Society must provide food, health, education and everything a child needs. Economic aid is not enough and does not provide adequate access for raising a child with all the possibilities that they should be. I hope this study outweigh the Ministry of Labor and create the possibility for its improvement, “said Detlef Palm, UNICEF representative in Albania.
Social experts who have contributed to this study, have shown that economic assistance is entirely inadequate for ensuring a normal food for these children, so they have proposed that the government to review the scheme, and add a package of aid and basic food.
Children from poor families spend 3.9 times less for health spending and 4.8 times less for their education than normal income households. These children are the cassette to violence, but also against dropping out of school.
