TIRANA, Jan. 8 – Prime Minister Sali Berisha has ordered the Finance Ministry to prepare a law that removes antenna taxes to mobile operators imposed by local government units. The order comes few days after the Municipality of Tirana decided to impose an annual 2 million lek to mobile companies for each antenna placed on public spaces or private apartment block roofs.
Speaking at a government meeting on Wednesday, Prime Minister Berisha denounced what he called hysteria by local government authorities against mobile companies.
The Prime Minister described the taxation of the mobile operators under the principle that they make a lot of profit as a leftist practice, saying that he was pleased with the amount of taxes they pay.
