TIRANA, July 19 – Some 222 soldiers left for Afghanistan Monday to be part of the international troops there with the “Eagle 3” and “Herat 9” contingents.
This is Albania’s third peacekeeping in Afghanistan since joining NATO.
Both contingents have been sent to Afghanistan only after an intensive preparation in Albania and abroad assisted by the United States and Italy.
Chief-of-staff Gen.Major Maksim Malaj said that “Afghanistan is the most important mission in the Alliance’s 60 years of history and for that reason concluding it successfully is a major obligation for all of us.”
Both contingents are based in Heart, Afghanistan.
In another move Tuesday Albania’s police will send to a group of experts to train their Afghan counterparts on the implementation of standards and best practices.
