TIRANA, March 14 – Government has banned production and import of current non-biodegradable plastic bags starting from next September and their use in all trade units starting from next January. The current massively used plastic bags will be replaced with biodegradable bags.
The decision foresees that the new bags will be sold and included as a special item in the invoice.
Currently, a similar measure is being implemented for bakeries under an order by the National Food Authority, which has banned plastic bags for bread and ordered their replacement with paper bags. However, only few bakeries even in Tirana are using paper bags.
