TIRANA, June 3 – Opposition Socialist Party leader Edi Rama has pledged that if he wins the June 23 national polls, he will resolve the issue of the legalization of unregistered properties in the country, a thorny issue, which authorities have not been able to solve for more than two decades in post-communist Albania.
Rama made the promise at an electoral meeting in Kashar, near Tirana.
Property issues remains a main topic in the electoral campaign for the next elextions.
Rama said that such an issue should be resolved immediately. He also criticized the efforts of the government of Prime Minister Sali Berisha, calling them “propaganda instead of work.”
The Democratic Party government says that the legalization process has already started and they pledge to complete it soon.
Many homes constructed in the past twenty years were built without official permissions and there are conflicting ownership claims on land and other properties.
