PUKA, July 29 – Local residents of the Shkoza village in northern Puka district have raised alarm bells that the disposal of ammunition near their area is threatening nature and also their houses.
The army has started the disposal of some 1,200 tons of excess ammunition there.
People fear that could cause fires in their beautiful region which could otherwise be turned into mountainous tourism.
People also fear that the explosions are threatening to cause land slides.
They have signed a petition and asked authorities to stop that process or they will block the national road and start mass protests.
Puka mayor Rustem Strugaj called the decision to hold the disposal process as unacceptable because it was damaging nature and the ecosystem.
