TIRANA, Nov. 13 – The head of the prison department, Saimir Shehri, on Tuesday resigned from the post following disagreements with the justice minister. “I resign because I cannot cooperate with a minister like Ilir Rusmajli, who has changed from the justice minister into a minister breaking the law Šand I have facts for that,” said Shehri in front of journalists. Shehri claimed he had taken the post at a very difficult time with revolts, strikes, corruption and total lack of the rule of law within the prison department. He said that prisons were a black spot for Albania. But he claimed they had changed the face of that institution, a step that has been praised by the European Union. However, the EU has still mentioned Albania’s prisons as a shortcoming for the administration.
