LEZHA, Oct. 4 – A prisoner in northwestern Albania managed to escape his guards after he had received permission to visit his family.
Admir Tafilaj was given permission to visit his family and meet his parents.
He escaped the guards leaving from an apartment window. Police learnt only three hours later about his escape.
Tafilaj was sentenced for injuring a police officer some years ago.
The same permission to visit the family was also given to his brother, sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering a policeman. But he did not try to escape.
Following the escape, the prison department put under arrest two top officials at that prison and eight guards, accusing them of negligence.
The warden was also dismissed.
