TIRANA, July 17 – Saranda Mayor Stefan ȩpa visited Kosovo this week promoting the southern Albanian town in the neighbouring country. Inviting Kosovo citizens to visit Saranda, Cipa said the coastal Ionian town known for its rocky pure beaches Saranda offered a beautiful mix of cultural and natural heritage.
“This year, Saranda is more prepared than ever before to welcome visitors from the entire world. If last year Saranda was visited by about 500,000 tourists this year from the figures that we currently have, besides the prolonged global crisis, it is indicated that we have registered an increase of 15% compared to last year,” said ȩpa.
Saranda has a population of about 40 thousand inhabitants, but during summer it triples.
ȩpa stressed that the main concern of tourism in Albania is close season, which lasts about 40 days. It starts from July 15 until the end of August.
Prishtina Mayor Isa Mustafa expressed his readiness to support Saranda in its promotional campaign.
Kosovo tourists are the top foreign visitors in Albania. Last year, some 46 percent of the total 2.7 million foreigners in Albania were Kosovars, according to data by the Tourism Ministry. The construction of the Durres-Kukes highway linking the two countries in the shortest possible way has had a major impact.
