U.S. to support Tirana’s integration steps into EU

TIRANA – During the forum Meta also met with the U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, Philip Reeker, who assured him of Washington’s continuous support to Albania’s efforts of integration.
Meta made it clear that Tirana considers the United States as the most important strategic partner and assured Washington of continuing the key moderate role in the region as a factor of peace and stability.
He assured Reeker that the new cabinet would give an impetus to the European integration but also added that regional cooperation would get new priorities.
Meta also mentioned in the talks the U.S. key role for the transparency of the June 23 parliamentary elections in the country.
Reeker, on his side, considered the June elections ads a test passed successfully. He assured Meta of Washington’s continuous support to the tiny western Balkan country’s efforts of integration into the Union. He also said that Washington would continue support for its reforms of institutions and the economy.
Reeker also considered Albania as an important U.S. partner in the region.
