TIRANA, Jan. 30 – Top European Union official Christian Danielsson, in charge of the enlargement, visited Tirana last week to meet with top local official and discuss with them Albania’s progress towards the five key priorities.
Danielson met with President Bujar Nishani, Speaker Ilir Meta, Prime Minister Edi Rama and Opposition Leader Lulzim Basha.
Danielsson noted the country’s progress towards the achievement of the five key priorities, but also next steps to be taken in order to successfully complete the judicial reform, further improve business climate and Albania’s overall reform progress.
Albania was granted last year the candidate status and it should now work to achieve the launch of the membership talks with Brussels.
Danielsson underlined that candidate country status brings more responsibilities for Albania to further deliver on the EU agenda.
Danielsson said that the European Commission remains committed to Albania’s integration to the EU and will continue to closely monitor the integration process and assist the country in its reform efforts.
