TIRANA, March 3 – Rrustem Neza will not be deported to Albania from the United States as a result of efforts by a U.S. congressman. Neza’s case has been postponed until later this month.
Neza was released from a West Texas U.S. detention facility and has returned to East Texas to be with his wife and two sons. His wife and their 10-year-old child also face deportation while his 6-year-old son does not since he was born in the United States.
In 2001 Neza fled from Albania to Belgium and later to the United States after witnessing the murder of Azem Hajdari, lawmaker of the Democratic Party of Albania. His family has said that, because Neza publicly identified two men accused of assassinating a Democratic leader, he could be killed upon returning to Albania.
