TIRANA, Jan. 26 – Cooperation and coordination of the work in civil emergencies and exchange of experiences in natural disasters will be the main theme of the joint military exercise codenamed Joint Reaction 15 that was launched this week in capital Tirana.
The exercise is organized by Albania, the United States and also other Adriatic Charter member countries in the region.
The Adriatic Charter was launched in 2003 by Albania, Croatia and Macedonia, but in 2008 it was extended to Montenegro and Bosnia Herzegovina. The United States has also been a founding partner of the group.
Albanian Defense Minister Mimi Kodheli said that besides cooperation in the case of natural disasters, another important goal remains “promoting and strengthening regional cooperation and security.”
Albania and Croatia joined NATO in 2009 and the same prospects are open to the other members too, officials said.
Joint Reaction 15 is the first training of the kind in the region.
