ELBASAN, Oct. 9 – A group of 500 farmers in Elbasan want to create partnership with the World Bank in order to turn their hills and mountainous areas into fertile ones. They were first planted with fruit trees but many were cut after the fall of communism. The group of farmers would like to profit from a $150 million funding of the bank which they are trying to convince on the seriousness of their project. Twelve villages of the Tregan commune with some 5,000 inhabitants and with some 600 hectares of land or forestry want to have a financial support from the bank as they are not finding it from the government. They say they have the labor force and want to use it to turn the area into a plantation of fruits.
