TIRANA, March 5 – Central Bank of Albanian governor Ardian Fullani made a visit in late February to Luxembourg and Belgium to meet with the counterparts in those countries, according to a bank statement. In Luxembourg Fullani talked with his counterpart Yves Mersch and also other members of the executive board to follow the next day with the belgian counterpart Guy Quaden and other officials. Fullani also met with Klaus Regling, a senior official of the European Commission. Fullani made a presentation of the situation of the Albanian economy and the banking system. He spoke at length on his bank’s efforts in preserving price stability and monitor the banking system. Fullani also spoke on the bank’s new efforts to reconsider its monetary policy strategy and the concrete steps already undertaken. During the meetings the bank governor talked on the cooperation with the European banks and efforts to know more about the functioning of the European system of the central banks and the adoption of that reality into the Albanian system. Managing internal debt was another main topic of discussion along the bank’s efforts to approximate the bank toward the European system. Cooperation among the regional countries in the banking system was considered as a good step toward integration.
