Total sources of electric power, during 2008, increased by 12.4 percent compared to 2007. The quantity of electric power generated and imported was 6,608 GWh.
Domestic production of electric power increased sharply by 30.6 percent compared with 2007. The total domestic production quantity was 3,849 GWh and made up 58 percent of total sources.
Production in hydro plants is the only source of total domestic production of energy for 2008. The substantial increase of hydro plants production by 34.3 percent compared with 2007 gave the main impact in the increase of total domestic production. Production of energy by concession and private plants had a sharp increase with 12.9 percent compared to the previous year and accounted for 1.6% of total production.
Import (including exchanges) of electric power had a decrease of 5.9 percent compared with 2007. In 2008, the imported quantity (including exchanges) was 2,758 GWh from 2,934 GWh in 2007. The quantity imported made up 41.7 percent of the total sources in year 2008 down from 49.9 percent in 2007. Export (including exchanges) in 2008 had an increase by 175.3 percent compared with the previous year. It made up 4.4 percent of the quantity available for use.
Losses in network increased by 2.6 percent compared with 2007. The quantity of total losses was 2,139 GWh. They compose 32.4 percent of the quantity available for use. Losses in distribution increased by 2.9 percent compared to the year 2007. They consist in 90 percent of the lost quantity of energy in network.
Consumption by users in 2008 increased by 14.1 percent compared with 2007. The disposable quantity for final consumption was 4,156 GWh or 62.9 percent of the total electric power available for use. Electric power consumed by the residential sector in 2008 increased by 9.9 percent. This sector has consumed 54.9 percent of the quantity available for all final users. Electric power consumed by other users increased by 19.7 percent compared with 2007.
