Transport Minister Sokol Olldashi reiterated the Albanian government’s stance to make the Shengjin port fully available to landlocked Kosovo

TIRANA, July 25 – Albania and Kosovo have signed a cooperation agreement that facilitates road transportation procedures for operators of both countries. The deal, signed last weekend in Prishtina by Kosovo Infrastructure Minister Fehmi Mujota and Albanian Transport Minister Sokol Olldashi, enables recognition of licenses and permits for transport operators in both countries.
Minister Olldashi said a technical commission composed of experts from Albania and Kosovo will be set up to further liberalize transportation procedures.
Asked about the Shengjin port concession to the Kosovo government, Transport Minister Sokol Olldashi reiterated the Albanian government’s stance to make the port fully available to landlocked Kosovo but urged private Kosovo companies to invest for its modernization.
“We and the Kosovo government have been clear about this and reconfirm our stances. The Shengjin port is available to Kosovo at any time,” said Olldashi.
The port’s reconstruction and modernization would have special impact on the development of Kosovo and even the region.
Kosovo’s Trade and Industry Ministry said earlier this year it was working on a feasibility study to find the best ways to make the port available for Kosovo businesses.
The Shengjin port is about 90 kilometers north of capital Tirana and about 100 kilometers west of Kosovo.
