TIRANA, Nov. 7 – Albania’s government aims to transform the country’s police force into one of the best in Europe, the prime minister said this week.
During his address at the New Generation Police ceremony held Monday in Tirana, Prime Minister Edi Rama revealed that the government is determined to move forward and transform ambition to a reality.
“In 10 years our police forces will be among the best ones in the European Union. We will move forward in meeting our objective. We believe that this is completely possible,” Prime Minister Edi Rama said.
During the ceremony, Minister of Interior Saimir Tahiri said that the transformation of the country’s police is a success story.
“All surveys have shown that our police force is the most entrusted institution in the country,” Tahiri said.
“We aim to win every challenge ahead of us. The murders and theft toll is in decline. Fight against narcotics is intensified, and we have seized numerous assets of the criminal organizations,” Tahiri added.
At the New Generation Police ceremony, Tahiri unveiled the new uniforms of the Albanian police as well as the application of a new model of police activity in community.
“Soon we will launch a pilot project involving a new model for the police forces. We want citizens to consider the police officer, their point of reference and trust,” Tahiri said.
“The police officer is present to assist and serve as well as build new society mechanisms to guarantee the joint safety of an entire community” he concluded.
